Real Electrical Solutions knows that you have a lot of questions about the services we provide and why we usually recommend using a level 2 Accredited Service Provider for electrical diagnosis, repair and installations. We have listed some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive below.
What is a level 2 ASP electrician?
Level 2 Accredited Service Providers are electricians who are licensed to carry out more advanced jobs than an ordinary electrician. They have undergone special training to provide extensive installation, repair and maintenance work to overhead and underground service lines that connect your home or business to the electricity network.
A level 2 electrician is also qualified to disconnect and reconnect existing premises from the network, repair electrical faults, install electricity metering equipment and connect service lines to the network in compliance with the Australian Wiring Rules and Regulations.
Some of the services that Real Electrical Solutions can provide include:
· Meter installations
· Private power supply upgrades
· Disconnection and reconnection to the power supply
· Underground and overhead power supply to homes and businesses
· Supplying temporary builders services
When do I need a Level 2 Electrician?
Installing meters
Electrical providers only authorise level 2 electricians to carry out any work on metering equipment. This includes installing any kind of electrical meter into a building, removing existing metering equipment, installing solar meters and upgrading an old meter.
Disconnecting and reconnecting power supply
Disconnecting and reconnecting electricity is a high-risk job that only a licensed level 2 electrician can perform. Whether you need a main power disconnect to install a new meter, move a switchboard or repair an electrical fault on your property you will need a level 2 electrician who can adhere to local regulations and the latest industry codes.
Connecting underground and overhead power supply
Whether you’re working on an existing site or new premises, level 2 electricians can provide the electrical installation of your overhead or underground service lines as well as undertake necessary repairs.
Upgrading power supply
Level 2 electricians can complete all the electrical work associated with upgrading your electricity supply for your home or business. Power upgrades are usually needed for commercial properties, but they can also be necessary to run air conditioners and other energy-consuming electrical appliances in the home.
Connecting to a temporary builders supply
You will need to contact a level 2 electrician to connect a temporary builder’s power supply to provide electricity for lighting, power tools or machinery on your building site. Real Electrical Solutions generally fit temporary builder’s power supplies into a robust kiosk, which can be placed anywhere on the property.

Can you install a private power pole on my property?
We can install a private power pole on your property as an alternative to using the power supply provided by the network from the street. As a privately owned power source, our electricians will connect your property to the public power supply by attaching lines from the network pole and running them to your private power pole.
Can you complete work on the Ausgrid network?
We are authorised with Ausgrid as an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) to perform electrical connections and disconnection on the electricity network. This means we can install, repair or maintain the overhead and underground service lines between installations and Ausgrid’s electricity network, including connecting service lines to the network and energising the installation.
What should I do when I receive an Ausgrid defect notice?
If you have been issued an Ausgrid defect notice, it means that your electrical installation does not meet Ausgrid’s safety requirements and you will need to hire a level 2 electrician to resolve the issue within 21 days of receiving the notification.
If you do not take action within the 21 days, your electricity supply will be disconnected until the safety requirements have been met.
The most common reasons for receiving an Ausgrid defect notice include;
Incorrect or faulty wiring
Defective or missing equipment
Alterations made to the electrical connection

Vegetation growing too close to power lines on the property
